80 South St, Exeter EX1 1EQ, UK – 01392 279464

As a previous visit, this was five stars. Very welcoming and friendly / good humoured staff. Food: just wonderful. So very tasty and good portion sizes. The four of us really enjoyed our evening here and will return again.

Had lunch here. Staff is very welcoming. They do have a lunch menu, starter & main course for a very reasonable price. Food is excellent, portions are very good. Very good selection of wines. I very much enjoyed this place.

Harry's Restaurant

86 Longbrook St, Exeter EX4 6AP, UK – 01392 202234

Given Exeter's abundance of well-heeled students and affluent second-home owners, it's surprisingly short on good independent restaurants. Thankfully, Harry's is there to fill the gap. I understand it started as a burger place, but the menu now runs to a range of good, local steaks, pasta dishes and (slightly unexpectedly) Mexican fare. But it's all well done, so more power to them. It's well priced for what it is. A few posters here note that the steaks aren't cheap, but they are competitively priced. If you don't want to spend a lot get an excellent burger rather than a fillet steak! The place itself is pleasant and the staff have always been very helpful in my experience. Do book though - it's a very popular place and if you turn up without a booking you are not likely to get a table. In fact, book early, because twice now I've called a few days ahead and found there are no tables left.

Couldn't recommend Harry's enough. It's nice and warm inside whilst being I'm a history building near the centre of Exeter. It's only a 5 minute walk from Exeter Central train station and there is a car park less than a 100m away that is free after 6pm. It has a nice warm and cosy atmosphere inside that works well with the food they serve. They have a great selection of steaks as well as other heart warming food. They also have a good complementary wine selection. The staff are excellent and welcoming. The food is amazing and couldn't recommend the steaks enough.

Herbies

15 North St, Exeter EX4 3QS, UK – 01392 258473

We had such a lovely time here last night! The food was delicious and full of flavour. I had the falaffel wrap with salad and it was so much food I couldn't finish it, even though I really wanted to! The food is very reasonably priced, much cheaper than any other restaurant in Exeter for dinner. The staff are very friendly.

Outstanding Food. Above and Beyond! Really Flavoursome Wholesome Quality fresh Vegetarian food - Very impressive. An Extensive variety of dishes - The Chef is Clearly very Talented & Thoughtful Taking immense pride in the depths of flavour. Beautiful presentation. So So Good. Will Return Asap. Wow. My faith in Fabulous Veggie food is restored! Go Herbies!

Best Reviewed Indian Restaurants and Takeaways in Emmanuel School or in Exeter area

Ganges Restaurant

156 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 272630

Absolutely delicious. Only walked in because we'd run out of ideas for where to eat and very glad we did. Sea Bass Curry was perfect. Lemon rice was perfect. I'm now stuffed. Happy but stuffed.

Nice modern restaurant with modern decor and music. Menu covers all the usual favourites with their own take on specials. Service was pretty quick even on a Saturday night. They do take-aways as well. Curries we all had went down well and the nan bread was very good accompiament.

Real India

28 South St, Exeter EX1 1EB, UK – 01392 211222

Ate there last night. Sooooooo good. We had the set menu for two. My new favorite Indian restaurant. Great staff and the Hungarian team member was fantastic. Thanks for a cracking evening!

Good quality food and service but lacking in ambience. The prices and the food quality say "restaurant", but the furnishings, decor and toilets say "cafe in need of some TLC". Absolutely fine for a casual curry of an evening, but can't help but feel it could be something more with just a little expenditure.

Curry Leaf

50-51 North St, Exeter EX4 3QR, UK – 01392 438994

Authentic southern Indian cuisine, best Takka Dahl for years, original breads, 11/10!

Good home Indian cooking with friendly service. The roti is excellent. We ate well for a fair price.

Best Reviewed Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

ASK Italian

5 Cathedral Cl, Exeter EX1 1EZ, UK – 01392 920202

Ideal spot for a bite to eat in central Exeter. If you've been to an ASK before you'll know what to expect, for those that are new the menu covers most of the Italian classics and offers a good choice that should suit most tastes. If you are going during the week days take a look online for a discount/coupon as there are often deals available. The building itself is old, characterful and offers a good restaurant space. In the warmer months you can also eat in the courtyard area. Overall, a nice spot with a reliable standard of cooking as most people would expect from a national chain of high street restaurants.

Popped in for lunch whilst shopping in Exeter. Quick efficient service. Friendly staff. Ordered garlic bread as starter, but did not finish it as quite a large portion, but very tasty. Had Calamari as a main, again delicious. Would recommend.

Zizzi

21 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3LS, UK – 01392 920606

Very pleasant place to eat. It has an outside area and plenty of seating. Very good staff appropriately attentive. Food was very good nicely presented and tasty. Clean tidy and organised. The reason for only four stars was that I felt it a little expensive for largely pasta based dishes.

The food here was absolutely delicious! We had pizzas that were amazing. My friend and I decided to do the Zizzi spin. However, after we redeemed the coins from the Zizzi spins, there were hidden terms and conditions that were not expressed in the coupon itself. We 'purchased' the free main course, but after buying the coupon, it said we had to buy another main course to get the free main course. Otherwise, I would have just gotten the 20 pound voucher. It is a pretty good deal, but the coupon did not state that those were the terms of the coupon.

Carluccio's

Princesshay, Bedford Street, Exeter EX1 1GJ, UK – 01392 410492

The food is great but everybody seems to know that already. What surprised me recently is how good it is for kids here. The children's menu is good and cheap and the staff are all really great with little ones.

I have a lovely rectangular shaped, thin, crispy pizza. Lovely flavour. Would recommend

Artigiano Espresso & Wine Bar

248 High St, Exeter EX4 3PZ, UK – 01392 499169

Good atmosphere. Staff can be offhand. Food not always available. Great cookies!

Great meeting place. In city centre. Wi-Fi available. Very cosmopolitan wine bar.

Hatts

11 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3RP, UK – 01392 434184

It was a Thursday farewell to a work colleague there were 9 of us for drinks only starting at approximately 630pm ending at about 1100pm. It was quite quiet during our time there with perhaps 15 other customers coming and going during this time. The staff were pleasant and friendly. I would definitely go back on a Thursday evening for quiet drinks. Cheers AL

Good value, friendly staff and nice location just off the high street.

Doctor Inks Curiosities

Customs House, 43 The Quay, Exeter EX2 4AN, UK – 01392 491695

Very nice, pricey but worth it for the exoexperie and some beaybeaut coxktcock, the chap that served is was very nice and a fountain of knowledge, very interesting and quirky inside with taxidermy, worth a visit for a drink for sure.

Great place, great drinks, bar staff really know what they are doing. Love coming back hear time and time again.

Exeter Chinese Restaurants

Tang Shian Chinese Restaurant

80 South St, Exeter EX1 1BZ, UK – 01392 430080

When you visit Tang Shian you will be given the option of two menus. The authentic Chinese or the Western Menu. If you're after a western Chinese then you've made the wrong choice. This place has a fantastic authentic Chinese food menu that whilst not being your average selection is packed with great options. Venture out of your comfort zone and try some quality food. This place will not disappoint.

Deserves a lot more credit than a 3.8 star rating. Me and my family have been going for about 3 years now. The staff are lovely, friendly and attentive. The food is delicious and the decor is beautiful. Highly recommend.

7 Wok

10-12 Palace Gate, Exeter EX1 1JA, UK – 01392 211888

Good, low-cost Chinese buffet diner. Given that the dishes are not cooked for you individually, as in a conventional restaurant, they're very, very good. Limited choice at less busy times, but I had a three course dinner (with seconds!) and a single drink for less than the cost of a main course at the nearby Chinese restaurant. Will return again.

Cheap, good choice of food, quality better than other all you can eats in Exeter

Dee Yi

21A Heavitree Rd, Exeter EX1 2LD, UK – 01392 426600

Wow! This is one fantastic Chinese restaurant. The food is marvellous. The service is quick and courteous. A hidden gem in Heavitree.

Amazing food for a descent price. Do not expect the best environment just enjoy the food.

Exeter Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

The Plant Cafe

1 Cathedral Yard, City Centre, Exeter EX1 1HJ, UK – 01392 428144

The cakes here are divine. Banana and Dark Chocolate slice is so good. Seed bar is super tasty and surprisingly filling. Love the wraps too. Cosy indoor seating for the colder months, and a unique outdoor area for the warm ones, on the doorstep of the old City Bank, looking onto the front of the Grand Cathedral. Perfect for Vegans / Veggies.

Lovely place. Great veggie options. Killer chai latte 👌

Bill's Exeter Restaurant

32-33 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3LS, UK – 01392 259227

I took my boyfriend there for his birthday lunch. The crew were attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was awesome. My boyfriend had never been to a Bill's before and he was seriously impressed. They even made him a special cocktail at my request. Lovely place, lovely guys.

We went for dinner our first night in Exeter, and it was a lovely welcome to the city. My husband ordered Asian Spiced Ribs which were incredible and so tender! I ordered the Buttermilk Chicken sandwich which was moist, well seasoned and delicious. My husband had the Watermelon Raspberry Cooler (which was so good we went back a couple days later just to have a few more) and I had the peach tea, which was lovely, lightly flavored, and very refreshing. We shared an Eton mess for afters, which was a great light end to a fantastic meal. The staff were friendly and responsive which made the whole experience a great one. We've been before and it continues to impress!

Al-Farid

3 Cathedral Yard, Exeter EX1 1HJ, UK – 01392 494444

The food was good and halal. Presentation was nice too. It is not like London where you get free olives and pickles. They charge you for everything they serve. A bit pricey but good selection.

Great food and a unique atmosphere. I've eaten in and ordered takeaway (via a delivery service) from here. Both were delicious and filling. The only draw back is that the seating/tables are limited.

Riddle and Rye

223-226 High St, Exeter EX4 6RW, UK – 01392 422365

Lovely food.had the chicken and bacon salad ,absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. Chilled vibe. Perfect for chillin. Staff great. 😎

Dont understand why its not busier. Today was our second visit and both times it has been empty. You get plenty of very tasty food at a reasonable price. The place itself is very chilled and service cant be faulted. My first choice for food in Exeter :)

The Old Firehouse

50 New N Rd, Exeter EX4 4EP, UK – 01392 277279

Absolutely love this place. I go there all the time with my friends for a delicious pizza and amazing cider (elderflower is the best). Live shows are nice too. PS J.K. Rowling comes in frequently for a pint. Lovely lady

You will not find better pizza anywhere in Exeter. There is a reason why this characterful venue has such a good reputation - so much so that you may struggle to find a seat later on in the evening, even on a weekday. The cajun and the chilli and lime chicken are my personal favourite pizza offerings (one is easily enough to satisfy the appetites of two adults, and they provide foil to take any leftovers home). They are also famous for their cider which they can add a wide array of delicious fruit syrups to upon request, and they have a good range of wine and a couple of decent lagers to boot. Even if you're only in Exeter for one evening this place is a must visit!

Mill on the Exe

Bonhay Rd, Exeter EX4 3AB, UK – 01392 214464

Very highly trained staff, however, are not prepared to receive a large number of guests. 30 minutes waiting for a typical hamburger is a small shock. The very beautiful surroundings of the area plus fresh water air work well on the body after eating. I was served with a mayonnaise book but it was empty, unfortunately the staff probably does not have time to tell if they have what they need for a meal. The art was given in a dirty bucket. I wish staff all all of the best to provide more qualification at work.

Haven't been for a few years. Was quiet at there was an England match due to start, but there was a long wait to order as there weren't enough staff on. Food was slow to arrive, but was OK if nothing special given the price. There are plenty of tables outside right by the river so ideal for a quick pint after work in Summer, otherwise there are plenty of better options
